Lion’s Roar Yoga

Welcome to Yoga Mondays!

Last Monday, we started our yoga journey to the jungle with mask crafts! We glued on the hairy mane to the mask before practicing our lion’s roar (lion’s breath in yoga). Next door, there is a lot of construction work, which some drilling noises sounded like lions and tigers roaring, which we imitated.

We also did a few practice breaths with a straw and cotton ball to see how far we could blow the cotton ball, then we got active into some animal poses.

The children were inspired by the Good Morning Yoga picture book, and swiftly got down into our downward dog, among other fun poses. I reused an old bicycle tire so they could practice jumping through the hoop like a lion in a circus jumping through the hoop.

Yoga for children is positive because it supports their well-being by building self esteem and awareness, strength and flexibility. Not only that, but also it’s fun! They get to go on yoga journeys, become animals, play games, and it’s non competitive. It’s just a chance to BE. Isn’t that what being a kid is all about? Learning through play, interacting with their peers, and being present!
