Monday Big Kids Club offers children the opportunity to explore their senses to learn about the world around us. Each one of them is really important in your everyday life. You use at least one of your five senses every moment of every day. Your senses work together to let your brain know what is going on around you.
We have explored three of our senses (sight, touch, and hearing) through different experiences.
#1 Music and Movement
Music stimulates all the senses, helping children to learn to recognize patterns and sequences. We explored musical instruments and played them. We also danced to the rhythm of our egg shakers helping the children build gross motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression. Making tambourines and drums with a variety of materials encourages the development of fine motor skills.

#2 Receiving missions
Each class our puppet Jane, gives us a mission to complete, at the end the buddies have to described what they learned or what they explored. One of the missions was to go to the park to pick up natural materials and make a collage with them. Our buddies used leaves, rocks, sticks, pinecones, etc.

#3 Sensory activities
Children learn best through their senses. It was great to see all the children exploring materials with different textures (sticky, rough, soft, hard, bumpy and squishy) and finding out which ones they can use to make sounds. They guessed the textures by feeling the object and then describing it.
#4 Field trip adventure
We went to ackerysalley, which has been transformed into visual and audible spectacle. We changed the colours of the lights with the movements from our bodies. It was so much fun, and we ended up having an incredible audiovisual experience.
