BKC Fall 2018

BKC Presents: Falling In Love 2018

What is Big Kids Club's Falling In Love 2018?

Every afternoon, from September until November, our teachers present a structured educational program to make our preschoolers Fall In Love with learning.

Through sharing and team work, Big Kids Club enhances overall social development, and when children attend twice a week, they practice the rhythms and routines they'll need in kindergarten:

  • Cleaning up
  • Setting for circle time
  • Story sharing time between peers and teachers
  • Music and songs
  • Art projects
  • Science experiments
  • Weekly fieldtrips around greater Vancouver
  • Sharing and reflecting
  • .... and much more!

Weekday classes run from 1 - 4 pm everyday at Broadway and Storybook, and develop over the 12-week season. Sign up for your favourite classes every week, or mix and match across the board.

Read below for class details!

Mondays: Senses and Sensibility with Sarah and Cristi

Sarah's back on our BKC teacher roster this season, co-hosting Broadway's Monday presentation of the 5 Senses and Sensibilities, with our newest teacher, Cristi! With the handheld help of puppet Jane Austen, they will be experimenting amazing sensory experiences, and since Sarah's setting the stage, alliteration will abound.

Join them from 1 - 4pm Mondays until the end of November.

Mondays: Dig Deep with Kezia

In Kezia's Dig Deep class, we get to investigate what's been here for longer than we have. Where does fossil fuel come from? A city buried under ground? Did we mention Dinosaurs? That's right, it's all about what we discover underneath the earth's surface.

Don't forget your Indiana Jones hat when you join us at Storybook on Mondays from 1 - 4 pm!

Thursdays: Alphabet Yoga with Tomomi

Tomomi is the master of the physical education! In her summer season, she taught her Big Kids all about the importance of moving your body, and this Autumn, she continues her physical education topic through Alphabet Yoga! So if you're in love with the ABC song, and love to do yoga, you will definitely fall in love with this exciting class! Happening 1 - 4 pm every Thursday at Buddings Broadway!

Thursdays: Puppet Theatre with Anna

The princess of props, Anna spins into September with a brand new medium for staging, costumes, stories and games. This fall, all the world is a (miniature) stage, and the kids of Buddings will have their hands full, making a world of make-believe come to life - with puppets!

Anna's enthusiasm for playing pretend gives the kids a safe space to act out their ideas, and on the puppet stage, real-life stories can be examined and understood. Unleash your feelings, Thursdays from 1 - 4pm.

Fridays: All About Us with Chelsea

Chelsea is new to the team, so for her September - November introduction to Buddings and Big Kids Club, it's fitting that she host the very nice-to-meet-you topic of introduction.

All about me touches on where I'm from, and what I eat, but Chelsea's blowing the topic out to cover where we're from (in a multicultural context), and what we love - at Buddings and at home!

The classic preschool motif - enhanced - goes down on Fridays at Broadway from 1 - 4pm.

Fridays: Indigenous Animals with Ehlssie

Ehlssie's back-to-school program is a return to her own school-time major in anthropology, and a return, and revamp, to a class about First Nations art and storytelling.

She journeys with the kids through the stories and voices of animals of Indigenous culture, recognizing that our daycare, and city, are founded on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations and that these territories were never ceded through treaty, war or surrender.

It's a sensitive topic, and Ehlssie has just the right touch. See for yourself, Fridays at Storybook, from 1 - 4pm.
