Do you see what I see? It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s… a sky of infinite possibility!
The way I see it, “looking up” is the perfect metaphor for childhood. Kids look up to their parents and older siblings, both literally and figuratively, asking simple yet profound questions: Why is the sky blue? Why are there no more dinosaurs? Where does the sun go at night?
They look up in amazement at blue skies abuzz with activity: at birds flying by, planes taking off, window washers working at the tops of tall buildings, cranes moving materials around construction sites.
They look up at dark skies, too: at grey clouds that hint at oncoming rainstorms, full moons shining brightly in the dark of night, the black abyss of outer space.
They look forward to growing up: to getting bigger, braver, and having answers to all the questions they posed in childhood wonderment.
In our class “Looking Up”, Talia, I, and the Big Kids will turn our eyes skyward for a new adventure each week!
